On September 8th, Lisa Mickey wrote an article on how Nintendo Wii golf has become an important aspect in physical therapy. It helps out with rehabilitation. People say that it helps the pateient apply themselves more practically as physical therapy does. The Nintendo Wii golf helps with balance and movement. This can be very useful for those who are trying to recover from brain injuries or strokes but also to those working on coordination or movement. Wii golf brings a different element into physical therapy. Golf is a sport many people enjoy and so it is a new way of making therapy fun and will be more motivated to do what the therapists prescribe to do at home. As Michaela St. Onge said, the patients like it because it changes the pace of things from all the normal exercises. About two years ago, Aroostook Medical Center added Wii sports including baseball, golf, basketball and more. Many patients of Aroostook admit to Wii sports helping them a lot with their balance. In the past, physical therapists used bored games but it didn't have the same effect on the patients as wii sports did. And most of the patients do not even consider wii golf as exercise. Wii golf causes the patients to enjoy therapy more than usual. Not only does it attract golfers but also non golfers. The patients, as Kaiser Permanente says, normally play wii golf more than it is asked causing them to recover faster than expected.
The purpose Mickey wrote this article is to show the readers that traditional therapy is not necessary. There are many high tech toys that can also work the same way. However these high tech toys are more enjoyable causing physical therapy to become fun and exciting. Mickey shows the importance of toys like wii sports. It gives therapy a different dimension. It is also something most people like to do.
