Daniel J. Wakin, the author of the article "Rev. Sun Myung Moon, 92, Self-Proclaimed Messiah Who Built Religious Movement, Dies," uses a rather interesting and captivating title. The author summarized the life of Rev. Moon in a few words: a self-proclaimed messiah who built a religious movement. Wakin starts off his article by giving a short description of who Rev. Sun Myung Moon was; he was a businessman, an evangelist, and most interestingly, a self-proclaimed messiah. The cause of his death was said to be pneumonia and kidney failure which led to his death at the age of 92. Wakin then continues on to give a list of things Rev. Moon was known for doing: a number of civic organizations and the foundation of the Unification Church. The author then gives a few of the controversies Rev. Moon has stirred because of his religious beliefs and actions.
Wakin uses a series of devices to inform the reader about the death of Rev. Sun Myung Moon. The author first gives a short description of who Rev. Moon was and then he gives the description of the causes of his death at age 92. The author then uses a number of quotations which help the reader understand the controversial nature Rev. Moon held; he quoted that he was "humanity's savior." The author also uses quotations and dates/ facts that help inform the reader such as: quotations from Professor Barker, facts about Madison Square Garden and the CIA all to help inform that Rev. Moon was a self-proclaimed messiah that would raise some money and profits to help his image and reputation. The author takes a rather negative perspective on the achievements of Rev. Moon.
