The New Yorker writer Reeves Wiedeman wrote an article on August 31st informing and persuading the audience and tennis fans about the just announced retirement of Andy Roddick. He begins his article by telling the readers how Roddick's coach suggested him to wear something more casual because his last years appearance made him look to intimidating for a champion, so Roddick did as his coach asked. He also talks about Roddick's loss, and how he hasn't been able to get over it and is constantly being reminded; Roddick shows his disappointment when he says "There’s little reminders, You get the little deal on your locker that says you’re special. And then I think about 2006…" Wiedeman talks about how a while back Roddick already had retirement in mind, but while talking to his good friend; Serena Williams, she kept telling him to change his mind, but he didn't. He ends his article explaining to all tennis fans that tonight, Roddick would be facing the youngest player; and Australian, in the Top Hundred, and it might be his final match, but no one knows for sure, because he might just play Sunday or even next weekend.

Wiedeman writes this article to inform all the Roddick and tennis fans that after a long journey Roddick wants to retire from playing tennis. He also wants to persuade the audience to go to Roddick's "Last Match." He uses many words and tennis terms in this article to make his point clear and understanding. He also shows that despite Roddick's retirement, Roddick has invested a lot in the "future starts of tennis" as he put it. Finally, Wiedeman tries to set a very important point; despite of it all Roddick loves tennis and has always shown his affection towards it.
