3. Asking Why After a Child’s Accidental Death

The writer Amy Julia Becker writes an article about her fear that any accidents could happen to her children. She draws the reader's attention on the introduction by describing her fear in words that the reader can feel her frustration. She goes on saying that she understand why cancer happens, and many other things can kill someone. She says that it is because the world is fallen, however, she expresses her frustration to understand why children die in accidents such as drowned in a bathtub, or in a car accident. In the rest of the article she explains that even though she doesn't understand, she prays every night with her children and chase away her fears. She writes that her confidence is on God's hand and shows her faith that God will protect them.

Becker's purpose on the article is to tell the readers that they are not the only ones that have trouble understanding many things that God doesn't stop from happening. She is showing how even herself, a well known Christian writer, sometimes has trouble having faith just like everyone. However at the end, she is encouraging the readers to have faith and rely on Him. She believes that even though she doesn't understand and her faith is weak, God will take care of her children. She is saying that likewise, even having hard time understanding the purpose and reason of everything, we need to have faith in Him and put everything in His hands, because He is the one that enter into death itself to give us the eternal life.
