In Fain Greenwood's article, "Chinese bird flu toll rises to 6," he informs people about the epidemic going around China. Greenwood starts his article by revealing the measure China is taking to avoid the bird flu, or H7N9. It is a newly found disease which have killed 6 people ranging from 4 to 83 years old. This specific disease which is transferred through avian animals does not particularly show any warning signs, making it harder to find. It doesn't seem to be infectious and China's taking many precautions to avoid it to spread. Greenwood ends his article by stating that there is no risk of the H7N9 to spread internationally.

The author's purpose in writing this article is to warn people about the H7N9, specifically the citizens of China. To prove his point, Greenwood uses many quotes, which gives credibility to the article. He uses experts and organizations who work with these kind of problems, making the case more reliable. His article is formal and serious, as he tries to inform people about a disease which have killed 6 people out of 14. The audience is for everyone, so that they can be careful and avoid things which may lead to the disease. Greenwood does a good job to inform the readers and tell them all the informations which have been revealed by the Chinese authorities.
